I forget exactly how I became a fan of Gavin Degraw all those years ago. I do know that it was before he was featured on the show "One Tree Hill" and before he went on to fame. I some how stumbled upon his music and was impressed not only by the phenomenal way he played the guitar and the piano, but also by his astounding voice and touching lyrics.
When he performs, he is one of "those" artists who is not afraid to give it his all. He sings his heart out as he wails on the guitar and the piano. Someone who has no musical knowledge will be able to tell that he is an exceedingly above average musician. Gavin and his band flow from song to song seamlessly; the music is tight. It's obvious that he (and they) works hard and that hard work is invested with an innate talent and stage presence that allows the audience to see his passion for what he is doing, and all the fun that he has doing it.
Not only does he give his all to his music and his performance, his lyrics are so real. There has been some part of every song that I have been able to directly relate to my life. Some line or phrase that sums up exactly what I feel; that says what I need to say. I connect with the lyrics and what he is expressing through his art.
Gavin Degraw is such a down-to-earth artist. While he is on stage he really connects to the audience. He has the ability to make semi-large venues seem as intimate as chilling out in a bar with a couple of friends. I've only seen him at a rather large venue once and it was just as amazing as seeing him in a smaller venue. He just has a grace onstage that lets you know that he is a real person who loves what he does and works hard at it. During his shows, he's always cracking jokes and making little comments that allow the audience to feel like they are spending a few hours with an old friend.
There are so many more reasons to why I am a fan of this amazing artist, but I think that's enough from me now...except one more...
He's definitely easy on the eyes
